The First Million

Millionaire Calculator

The book chapter that inspired this tool (currently in French only)

This isn't a race against anyone else. The only million that matters is the one that changes your life, not the one you show off. Nothing is sent or kept after you close this page.

18 years matches the book's table exactly, from birth to adulthood.

You choose this rate. We don't suggest one.

2% by default, the European Central Bank's reference. Editable.

For 1,000,000 € in the account

0 €

per month

For 1,000,000 € in today's purchasing power

0 €

per month

These two numbers aren't a judgement on where you stand today. They show two ways of counting the same ambition. Neither one is the right answer, both are true at once.

This is a simulation, not personalised advice. The return rate used is the one you chose, not a forecast or a recommendation from ElIsma Technologies. Past performance does not guarantee future results. To build a strategy suited to your situation, consult a licensed investment adviser. See the full disclaimer (FR).

Few people look at their ambition from both angles at once. You just did.

Why two numbers for one million

The first amount tells you what to pay in each month to see 1,000,000 € appear in an account statement, within the chosen number of years. It's a real number, but it says nothing about what that sum will actually be able to buy the day you reach it.

The second amount answers a different question: what needs to be paid in so that, once you get there, this capital has the same purchasing power as a million today? Over 20 or 30 years, the gap between the two becomes significant, purely because of inflation eating away at value year after year.

Neither number is the right one on your behalf. It's up to you to decide what matters to you: the number shown, or what it can actually buy. This reasoning holds true whatever the target amount, whether it's exactly one million or any other figure you've chosen.

This calculator offers a simulation, not personalised advice. The results shown are indicative and don't replace the advice of a professional for a decision suited to your situation.

Frequently asked questions

Should I aim for the nominal or the real amount? ▾
There's no universally right answer. Some prefer to track the nominal amount, simpler to see on a bank statement. Others prefer the real amount, more honest about what the sum will actually be able to buy. The choice is yours.
Does the target amount have to be a million? ▾
No, 1,000,000 € is the default value but the field can be freely changed for any goal.
Is my data saved anywhere? ▾
No. No data entered on this page is sent to a server or kept after you close the page.
